001 — The Pitch

An eternal winter. A broken machine. A truth older than memory.

Civilization collapsed under what the survivors call The Dimming — a slow, generational starvation of light and warmth that began before anyone alive can remember and has never reversed.

You play a lone scavenger fighting to survive, repair a broken-down industrial mech, and uncover the truth behind it. The world tells you it was a curse, a cataclysm, the wrath of something that ate the sun. The truth, when you find it, is older and more terrifying than any of that.

This is a game about desperation, resourcefulness, and the small triumphs of staying alive one more day in a place that wants you dead. Every piece of scrap matters. Every decision carries weight.

And somewhere out in the white expanse, the answer to what killed the world is waiting for someone stubborn enough to find it — and prepared for what they'll learn.


002 — Five Moments

The shape of a run.

The game's design is built around five back-of-the-box experiences. Every system serves at least one.

The Mech Rises

You've spent hours scavenging across a frozen factory. You welded on a salvaged left arm, swapped the leg actuators for something faster, bolted a fuel tank to the back. You climb in. It lurches to life — mismatched, ugly, yours. You step out into the blizzard.

The Ambush

You leave the mech idling in the open as bait. On foot, you circle through the ruins. Three scavengers are focused on it — moving in. You pick off the first silently. The other two still don't know you're there. The snow muffles everything.

The Cost of Living

You're almost back to camp. Your pawn's hands are shaking — hypothermia creeping in. The mech is nearly out of fuel. You make a call: burn the food rations for heat, or push through and risk losing fingers. You push through. You make it. But now you're starving.

Ghost in the Wasteland

Your old pawn's distress beacon just pinged. You trek for twenty minutes across the map. There's the mech — half-buried in snow. Inside, your old body. The journal entries are yours. The inventory is what you were carrying when you died. Time passed. Things have changed.

The Mech Changes Everything

You've been on foot for days since the mech broke down. Everything felt dangerous, slow, exposed. You finally scavenge the last part you needed, bolt it on, and climb back in. The calculus of the entire map shifts. Distances that felt impossible are now trivial. Threats you were avoiding, you're now hunting.

003 — Folk Names

The same things have different names.

A shopkeeper, an inquisitor, and a wanderer stand the same distance from the same world — and call it different things. The language tells you who is speaking.

The eternal winter that ate the sun. Folk legend calls it a curse, an old god's wrath, a punishment for forgotten sins. The truth — gated behind faction relationships, NPC survival, and how far the simulation has degraded — is older than any of those stories. Most who walk this world will never reach it.

The Wrought

People who were changed. What did it to them, nobody alive remembers. A handful of small psychic powers, each with permanent costs. Not heroes with abilities — patients managing a degenerative gift the world reacts to with fear or reverence.

ILLNESS

folk: The Rust

The degenerative condition that begins the first time the player uses a power. Incurable but manageable. Late-game Wrought are living on borrowed time, and the player feels every power they spend. Mastery looks like restraint, not practice.

The world is cold. Warm colors appear only where humans or machines have intervened — and even then, those warm tones are faded, losing the battle against the cold.
